I have played games ever since I was young, but it wasn’t until recently that I started caring about getting all the achievements that a game has to offer. During covid I played a lot of games and would go for 100% on the odd game with achievement requirements that weren’t massively time consuming to complete, but I was just mainly playing casually for fun at this time.
It wasn’t until a couple of years later when I started to watch platinum trophy and completionist content on YouTube that I became really interested in this side of gaming.
Watching other people unlock all of the achievements or platinum my favourite games made me want to do it too, so I decided to start with games that I had already played before and unlock the remaining achievements on those games.
I’ve had my Xbox account since 2013, so there were some
games that I’d played in the past that had achievements that are no longer
unlockable, meaning those completions are now unattainable. This was mostly due
to multiplayer servers now being offline for older games or bugged achievements.
I decided just to ignore those games and focus on the games that I could still
complete.
This has slowly become a hobby of mine, one that is a giant
waste of time as it can turn a 25 hour game into a 50 hour game and it's not always fun, but it is always satisfying to see that 100%
next to a game after spending countless hours going for a monotonous
achievement that most sane people wouldn’t look twice at.
I have a lot less time to play games nowadays, so I rarely
play casually anymore. I’m still working through my list of previously played
games to try and complete as many as possible. I currently have 21 completions
and have been working on the next one during my free time. This hobby has changed
the way I play games because I rarely start new games and tend to look into the
achievements of a game before I commit to playing it.
